SC Man Gets 30 Years for Killing Grandmother

RIDGELAND, S.C. (AP) _ A 33-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in the stabbing death of his child’s grandmother. Prosecutors said that Jasper County jurors found Antonio Scott guilty Wednesday of one count of murder in Cynthia Nelson’s death. Authorities say Nelson was trying to intervene in an argument in March between her daughter and Scott as they exchanged their 1-year-old child when Scott stabbed her in the neck. Investigators say Scott also went to Nelson’s apartment the day before the stabbing to confront her. Authorities say he hid in a trash bin after she called police. He made several harassing phone calls after officers left. Prosecutors say Scott was on probation for beating Nelson’s daughter at the time of her death.
