Small earthquake reported near Charleston
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Scientists report a small earthquake has shaken areas near Charleston
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake measuring a magnitude 2.2 shook an area between North Charleston and Summerville around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Police say no one reported the earthquake. Scientists aren’t surprised because earthquakes of such low magnitude often go unfelt.
Charleston frequently has small tremors. An earthquake that registered approximately a magnitude 7 hit the city in 1886 and killed more than 100 people.
