University of South Carolina boosts minorities
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The University of South Carolina says it boosted enrollment of black and Hispanic students this year.
The State newspaper reported ( http://bit.ly/svQLjZ) the school said official enrollment figures released this week show 337 black students among the nearly 4,600 freshmen this year. That’s an increase of 42 percent since 2009.
The 169 Hispanic freshmen represent a 35 percent increase in the past two years.
The school also said this week that the average SAT score for the freshman class was a record 1,199.
