Greenville deputies throw Christmas party for kids

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Christmas is coming a little early this year for some special needs children in Greenville.

Greenville County sheriff’s deputies on Friday are throwing a Christmas party for children at the Meyer Center.

Some deputies have been serving as mentors for preschool-aged children at the center who receive developmental education and therapy.

This is the second year in a row deputies have made sure the center’s children get a Christmas present, raising more than $8,000 from local businesses and donors.

Deputies say they spent more than $1,600 on presents and wrapping materials for about 100 kids. The presents are being distributed Friday, and the rest of the money will be donated to the center.
