Charleston to pay outsourced custodians $53K
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Charleston County schools plan to pay 57 former custodial workers a total of $53,000.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Monday (http://bit.ly/rIGAUj) the county school board decided earlier this year to outsource school custodians to private companies to save about $700,000 annually.
School officials say there was confusion about a letter sent to 57 workers losing their jobs about how much they will be paid.
So school officials are making final payments ranging from about $800 to more than $1,100, depending on how long the workers have been employed by the school systems.
Chief financial officer Mike Bobby says the school board decided to pay the additional money because of the confusing letter.
