Former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw addresses USC grads

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Former NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw is speaking to graduates at the University of South Carolina’s winter commencement.
The 71-year-old former “Today” show host and book author is being awarded an honorary doctorate of human letters at Monday’s event.
University officials say the ceremonies for associate, baccalaureate, master’s, professional and doctoral degree recipients were being held in Columbia. One ceremony was set for 3:30 p.m. in the Colonial Life Arena, while a separate doctoral hooding ceremony was slated for 1:30 p.m. at the Koger Center for the Arts.
Officials say they expect to award more than 2,600 degrees to graduates from all eight of the state university’s campuses.
