SC DMV offices to close 1 hour a week for training

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (AP) — Early birds looking to run errands at the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles may want to cross Wednesday morning off their calendars.

Executive Director Kevin Shwedo said Monday that starting Jan. 4, the agency will close all its offices from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday for in-house training.

Shwedo says the training sessions are needed to help employees respond to changing technology and legislative direction.

During a tour of all 68 DMV field offices this year, Shwedo learned that some workers hadn’t received new training for as long as 13 years.

The agency says it picked Wednesday mornings for the closures because offices tend to be less busy at that time of the week.
