Former Charleston County deputy charged by SLED

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A former Charleston County sheriff’s deputy has been charged with misconduct in office and grand larceny after an investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division.

Arrest warrants released Tuesday state that 43-year-old Troy Leo Capps of North Charleston is accused of taking cash from homes while carrying out search warrants at two locations in Charleston and North Charleston in October.

The warrants say less than $5,000 was taken. Affidavits with the warrants say money was found on Capps and in his patrol car. SLED investigated at the request of the sheriff’s office.

Capps was booked at the Charleston County Detention Center on Monday. The Associated Press left a message seeking comment at a phone listing for Capps.
