90 tombstones damaged at Greenville cemetery
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Greenville police say a downtown cemetery has been vandalized, with more than 94 tombstones either knocked down or broken.
Investigators said the damage at Springwood Cemetery was discovered after daybreak Thursday.
Some of the damaged tombstones were on graves dating back to the 1700s. Cemetery officials estimated repairs will cost at least $100,000, and the city of Greenville will pay for the damage.
Police are asking the public for any tips leading them to the vandals.
