Cops: Man serving 30-day sentence attacks worker

EASLEY, S.C. (AP) — Pickens County deputies say a man serving a 30-day sentence jail sentence by helping out at an Easley recycling center hit an attendant in the head with a baseball bat and locked him in a shed.

Authorities said 20-year-old Zachary Finley faces kidnapping, attempted murder, armed robbery and other charges and could now face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

Deputies say Finley attacked the attendant around 11 a.m. Friday. They say he tried to steal the worker’s truck, but couldn’t get it started, crashing it into a pole.

Investigators say an officer found Finley in a nearby field about 15 minutes after the attack.

Finley was serving the month in jail for criminal domestic violence. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.
