Columbia woman found dead; man charged with murder

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Columbia police have arrested a man in the death of a woman found in a home.

Forty-four-year-old Michael Kenneth Peterson was picked up late Monday afternoon and charged with murder.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says the victim was 54-year-old Brenda Witherspoon. The cause of death has not been released.

Police had been called to the home by a relative about noon Monday.

Investigators think Peterson and Witherspoon lived together.

No one else was in the home.

It wasn’t clear Tuesday if Peterson has a lawyer.
