Man wounded after firing gun at SC deputies
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — A man who was threatening to kill himself was shot and wounded after firing a gun at Spartanburg County deputies who came to check on his well-being.
Lt. Tony Ivey says the man left a note with a relative Saturday in which he said he was thinking about suicide.
Deputies were called to his Spartanburg home and broke the door down after no one responded to their knocks. Ivey says the man inside began firing a gun at the deputies, who returned fire, hitting him twice.
He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and information on his condition was not immediately available. None of the deputies were injured.
The man’s identity is being withheld until his family has been notified.
