Hilton Head chamber surveys members amid scrutiny

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — After a recent bout of public criticism, the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of commerce is asking its hundreds of members for input.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/unzmZm ) that the chamber recently sent out surveys to each of the chamber’s roughly 1,600 members.

The surveys come after a forum earlier this month hosted by a consulting firm on how the chamber can improve its services. Since then, local businessman Skip Hoaglund has announced his plans to create a competing organization to promote the area.

Chamber spokeswoman Charlie Clark says the group has surveyed its members in the past, but the recent discussions made this a good time to ask for feedback.

Clark says that so far, about 70 percent of respondents say they’re satisfied with the chamber.
