Woman Beaten to Death with Baseball Bat
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) –A 23-year-old man has been charged in the death of a woman authorities say was abducted from a Chesterfield County store and beaten to death in a random attack. Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said 23-year-old Nickolas Jermaine Miller was being held Tuesday on a murder charge. Matthews says Miller abducted 30-year-old Beverly Hope Melton from a convenience store Monday afternoon, took her to Kershaw County and beat her to death with a baseball bat. Matthews says authorities identified Miller using store surveillance video, which showed him harassing Melton. After authorities stopped Miller, Matthews says the man confessed and told authorities where to find Melton’s body. No bond has been set for Miller, and it wasn’t known if he has an attorney.
