COLUMBIA, S.C. A new sex store in southeast Columbia changes its name. A manager says he wants to make the public feel more comfortable with the store’s location. But that’s not enough for some outraged, neighboring businesses and residents. Taboo Adult Superstore, located in the 4,600 block of Devine Street, is now Taboo. Owners changed it’s 60-square feet sign to 30-square feet and removed, the ‘Adult Superstore’ portion altogether, in an effort to make the store less visible. Columbia city council leaders were forced to re-think its business licensing laws based on public opposition to the store and its marketing of sex toys and videos. A second reading of a new ordinance is scheduled for Thursday. If approved, rules for sexually oriented businesses could change.
