Graham to talk about National Guard’s new role

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham is joining South Carolina’s Adjutant General to discuss a major change in the U.S. military.

President Barack Obama signed a law this weekend that gives the National Guard a permanent seat on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the nation’s highest military council.

Graham, a Republican, worked on the bill with Sen. Patrick Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont.

The senator will join Maj. Gen. Robert E. Livingston Jr. to talk about the new law Tuesday morning at South Carolina National Guard Headquarters in Columbia.
