Former SC congressman, judge joins Gingrich
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Former South Carolina Republican Congressman John Napier has joined Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign as a campaign co-chairman in South Carolina.
Napier is from Pawleys Island and served as congressman for a term from the state’s 6th District in the 1980s. He also served as a federal judge on the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington.
Napier was a co-chair of the Reagan-Bush re-election campaign in the state in 1984 and of the late Gov. Carroll Campbell’s re-election campaign.
Gingrich finished fourth in the seven-way Republican presidential race in Tuesday’s Iowa caucuses.
