Police: Man used fake bomb to rob Rock Hill bank
ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Police in Rock Hill have arrested a man they say used a fake bomb to rob a bank.
Forty-nine-year-old John Edward Burchfield Jr. of Rock Hill is charged with possession of a fake bomb and entering a bank with intent to steal.
Police say a man entered the bank late Tuesday morning and threatened to detonate a bomb with a remote device.
Lt. Brad Redfearn says the man left with an unknown amount of money. Redfearn says Burchfield was arrested after an officer noticed a taxi circling the area apparently waiting to pick up someone.
Redfearn says the money was recovered.
He says a robot went into the bank to examine the device which was determined to be a fake bomb.
