Deputy Talks About K-9 Partner’s Death
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Less than a month after his K-9 partner, Fargo, dies in the line of duty, Richland County Master Deputy Warren Cavanagh opens up about coping with the loss. He shared with members of the media that he wouldn’t wish the kind of pain he feels on his worst enemy. Trying to deal with the death of a five-year partner, family member and friend, has its ups and downs. “When I put on my belt, the buckle would rattle and that was the first thing he would hear and he’d start spinning in his kennel ready to go,” said Cavanagh. “Getting dressed and not hearing that is awfully strange.” Fargo was shot three times by a fugitive suspected of robbing a convenience store off Monticello Road December 16 and died shortly thereafter. His cremated remains were given to Master Deputy Cavanagh and his family. Cavanagh will begin getting to know a new K-9 partner Monday.
