SC Democrats ‘welcome’ Romney, GOP primary contest
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina’s top Democrats say jobs are the biggest issue for South Carolina voters and White House GOP front-runner Mitt Romney has it wrong.
Former U.S. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn said Wednesday that Romney’s investment businesses cut jobs in South Carolina and that is not something to brag about.
Clyburn says voters are looking for compassion and there is nothing compassionate about Wall Street high rollers who don’t give a second thought to cutting jobs and walking away with profits.
Clyburn’s remarks come as the GOP presidential race attention turns to South Carolina. Romney’s Republican opponents are also making his work for venture capital firm Bain Capital an issue in the Jan. 21 primary.
