Judge considers revoking Ludwig’s probation

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina man who avoided prison in a 2009 car crash that killed a Greenville homeowner could be headed back to jail.

A judge on Friday is considering if 39-year-old John Ludwig should go to jail on a probation violation.

The once-wealthy businessman was charged with criminal domestic violence in November. Ludwig’s wife told police her husband asked her to write a check for their mortgage, then hit her in the back of the head as she tried to take a bath.

Ludwig was still on probation as part of a guilty plea to reckless homicide. Ludwig was originally charged with murder after his Maserati hurtled through a field, launched off an embankment and plowed into Frederic Bardsley’s home, killing the 62-year-old homeowner as he sat watching television.
