Newt Gingrich Rallies in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Thursday, GOP Presidential hopeful, Newt Gingrich, stood in front of hundreds gathered at the state house for a home ownership rally. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and that we are endowed by our creator,” says fomer House Speaker, Newt Gingrich. From quoting The Declaration of Independence to making promises of a change for America, the former House Speaker covered a lot of issues. “America has never been perfect but the ideal of America is a wonderful thing,” says Gingrich. He even included some childhood memories. “We lived in an apartment above a gas station,” says Gingrich. He also laid out a plan to increase home ownership in America. “What we have to learn is how to create a stable, safe mortgage system,” says Gingrich. Thursday’s rally comes on the heels of another poor showing for the GOP Presidential hopeful. After falling once again behind Mitt Romney in New Hampshire, Gingrich is hoping to appeal to South Carolina’s evangelical and socially conservative voters. And he didn’t leave much untouched. “We need a policy that would generate so much energy that no American President ever again bows to a Saudi king,” says Gingrich. Newt Gingrich also talked potential repeals of current law. “The repeal of Obamacare which is killing small businesses, the repeal of the Dodd Frank which is killing small banks,” says Gingrich. This is just one of many stops in the state this week for the GOP Presidential hopeful who has a lot riding on the upcoming first in the South primary.
