COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — “I wouldn’t be surprised if we win Iowa,” says GOP Presidential Hopeful, Rick Santorum. Sixteen days later, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum is right. “Our work, every little bit matters,” says Santorum. Santorum actually had thirty-four more votes in Iowa than Mitt Romney and he’s hoping to win in South Carolina. “Strong, conviction, consistent, conservative who knows why they believe what they believe and has the courage to go out and fight for those things,” says Santorum. Recent polls, including one by ABC News, put him in third place behind Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich. “It’s a good place to be, it’s in the money, and it’s in striking distance of the two,” says Santorum. Santorum is talking jobs and family. “This state is just tailor made and has been for a long time to attract good manufacturing jobs,” says Santorum. “You can’t have a strong economy unless you have strong families,” says Santorum. His tax plan. “Our tax plan triples the child deduction and makes it a lot more family friendly,” says Santorum. And his strong conservative-minded value system. “The more people do that is wrong, the more government grows and the more poverty you have, the more incarcerations you have, it’s just the downward spiral,” says Santorum. But, Santorum could face tough questions especially when it comes to the K-Street project. “We had an effort on the part of our Republican conference when I was in the United States Senate to speak to people about what we were planning to do in the Senate and try to get their support for our intiative,” says Santorum. “It was an information sharing meeting held at the capital, it was something that was very open, we didn’t hide it,” says Santorum. “The fact that we talked to lobbyist, well you know lobbyist represent interests all across America and of course we’re going to talk to them about some of the things we’re working on,” says Santorum. Right now, Santorum is working on winning over South Carolina voters. “This election is about freedom, it’s about whether we’re a country that’s going to be a top down, government controlled society like most of the country’s in Europe or whether we are going to believe in free people,” says Santorum. “If Barack Obama is re-elected, we will be the country that gave up on freedom and opportunity in America and have settled for security and statism to rule and govern our lives, I’m not going to let that happen on my watch and that’s why I’m running,” says Santorum.
