Visitation, revenues up at Patriots Point
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) — The Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum on Charleston Harbor saw more visitors and earned more money during the last six months of 2011 compared with the previous year.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports (http://bit.ly/zAWEss ) that museum Executive Director Mac Burdette also told the agency’s board Wednesday that expenses came in about $385,000 under budget for the same period.
Nearly 127,000 people visited the museum and the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown between July and December. That’s up 3 percent from the previous year.
The attraction booked 91 special events during the period, three times as many as in the previous year. Some of those events were stops by presidential candidates who routinely appear on the carrier during the campaign season.
