SC investigates Union County magistrate’s office

UNION, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating a report of missing funds from the Union County Magistrate’s Office.

Union County officials asked for the probe after an outside audit of the office.

County Supervisor Tommy Sinclair says two employees have been suspended with pay while the investigation is ongoing.

Sinclair declined to name the employees, but says the case has potential legal implications.

Sinclair says concerns over financial irregularities in the office began several weeks ago.

The state Court Administration recommended the audit, and after getting the results, Sinclair contacted the county sheriff’s office, which requested help from SLED.
