COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — Less than 48 hours after Newt Gingrich’s stunning victory in the South Carolina Republican primary, Gov. Nikki Haley defends her endorsement of Mitt Romney as the best presidential candidate. Monday, the governor addressed critics and naysayers after the candidate she chose did not win her state in the much-anticipated ‘First in the South’ primary. Speaking to reporters at a state realtors’ event, the governor fielded questions by reporters that were on the minds of many South Carolinians. Haley admitted that debates and primaries are unpredictable but stands by her choice of former Massachusetts governor, Mitt Romney, over former U.S. Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, citing she ‘didn’t want anyone who had anything to do with Washington. ‘ She praised South Carolinians for sticking to their guns at the polls; she believes she reserves the right to do the same. One political analyst told ABC Columbia News, he doesn’t think Haley’s endorsement of a candidate who did not win her state will negatively impact her or the state’s reputation and image.
