Trial to start in beating deaths of SC couple

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — Jury selection is scheduled to begin in the trial of a man charged with murdering a couple from Taylors during a robbery in Anderson County.

The trial of Matthew Fullbright is scheduled to begin Monday morning in Anderson County. Fullbright faces charges of murder and armed robbery.

Investigators say Fullbright and another man arranged to meet with Homer and JoAnn Staton on Oct. 23, 2009 on the pretext of trying to arrange a jewelry sale.

Homer Staton was retired but traveled the state, buying and selling jewelry.

Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper says the couple was then robbed and beaten to death.

Homer Staton’s body was found a few days after he was last seen, and his wife’s body found shortly after in a different part of the county.
