Tackling your Taxes

This video is no longer available.

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., H&R Block Senior Tax preparer, Monty Owens tells ABC Columbia News, he’s been preparing taxes for the last 40 years, and while some things have stayed the same, it’s the changes that people may not know about that could end up costing them big time. Ownes says, one of the biggest changes this year is the loss of the making work tax credit which was implemented in 2009 to stimulate the economy. Since Congress didn’t renew the credit it is no longer available. This year, the IRS is also requiring more information when you file you earned income tax credits, and are now holding tax preparers and filers more accountable. Ownes says regardless of whether you are filing your taxes yourself, or going to a professional, make sure you are using the latest software, knowledgeable about all of the deductions you are due, and that you seek help if you find yourself in over your head. It’s a move Owens says can save you time, money and some headaches.
