More Funding for Dept. of Mental Health in Haley’s Budget
Columbia, SC (WOLO)– Governor Haley is making mental health a top priority in her first executive budget. The governor held a news conference Wednesday at the Department of Mental Health to announce she is proposing an increase in funding for the department in the next fiscal year. Governor Haley said it is important to ensure those with hidden wounds are taken care of. ” What we want to do is say there is nothing wrong with someone that has a mental health issue. There is something very wrong when that person doesn’t get treatment. Because those are good productive citizens that deserve to live a good healthy life and if given treatment they could be incredibly successful.” The Department of Mental Health went through massive cuts in the last budget.
