Coastal Carolina hosting FOIA panel discussion

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Coastal Carolina University is sponsoring a conversation on the use and misuse of the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act.

The panel discussion at the Conway school is scheduled for Thursday night.

Panel members include media attorney Jay Bender and Bill Rogers, executive director of the South Carolina Press Association. Also scheduled to participate is Carolyn Murray, executive editor of The Sun News of Myrtle Beach.

South Carolina’s Freedom of Information Act was adopted in 1976 and last updated in 2003. It requires government agencies and public officials to disclose public information to the general public and the press, with a few exceptions.
