Man arrested in shooting death in Richland County

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Richland County sheriff’s deputies say they’ve arrested a man in the shooting death of another man in a sports utility vehicle earlier this week.

Sheriff Leon Lott says 20-year-old Jabriel Singleton was arrested in a Columbia motel room.

Singleton is charged with killing Deshawn Jones and wounding another person as they sat in a vehicle in Hopkins on Tuesday.

The surviving victim is in critical condition at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. The person’s name has not been released.

Detectives are trying to determine a motive.

It was unclear if Jones has an attorney.
