Belton man dies in fire at home

BELTON, S.C. (AP) — Anderson County officials say a Belton man has died in a fire at his home.

Firefighters were called to the home late Tuesday morning and found the kitchen and living room engulfed in flames.

Coroner Greg Shore identified the victim as 55-year-old Danny Ray Reed.

Shore says it appears Reed died of smoke inhalation. An autopsy was planned Wednesday to confirm the cause of death.

Belton Fire Chief Alan Sims says the State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the cause of the fire.

Police Chief David Dockins says officers went to the home earlier Tuesday to respond to a family dispute. Family members said Reed had quarreled with his mother, who lived in the house but was not there when the fire started.
