Killed In The Line Of Duty
AIKEN, S.C. (AP) _ More than 1,000 police officers and hundreds of others have paid their final respects to a South Carolina police officer shot and killed while responding to a call. Services for Master Cpl. Sandra Rogers were held Wednesday afternoon at the University of South Carolina Aiken Convocation Center. Rogers died last Saturday after she was shot while responding to a suspicious activity call. Joshua Tremaine Jones has been charged with murder, and also faces charges in the death of his ex-girlfriend. Rogers had been an officer with the Aiken Department of Public Safety for nearly 28 years. State officials say she is the first female law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in South Carolina. Another officer, Scotty Richardson, was shot to death during a traffic stop in December.
