A week later, search continues for SC jail escapee
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) — The search has intensified for a South Carolina jail escapee who has been on the run for more than week.
Authorities say 39-year-old James Sanders escaped from the Berkeley County Jail on Jan. 26.
Authorities received reports Wednesday that Sanders had been sighted near Summerville and officers from four police agencies set up a perimeter around a neighborhood and called in a helicopter and tracking dogs.
But the search failed to locate Sanders.
Sanders escaped by slipping out of a room at the jail and then hitching a ride with a man who did not know he was an inmate. Sanders is charged with criminal domestic violence and violating a restraining order.
