USC student charged with fire bombings
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A senior at the University of South Carolina has been arrested and accused of throwing seven explosive devices at buildings on campus and in downtown Columbia.
Twenty-two-year-old Theodore Walter Podewil IV of Columbia was arrested Wednesday morning.
Police say Podewil made homemade bombs and threw them from parking garages, at vacant houses and trash bins. Police think one of the devices was thrown at a bar in Columbia that caused $300,000 in damage.
No one has been hurt.
USC police filed three of the charges of possessing and using an incendiary device. Four of the charges came from the Columbia Fire Department. Police say they found bottles, rags and gas cans from Podewil’s attorney.
It was unclear if Podewil has an attorney.
