Horry County authorities fight brush fire

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) — A brush fire in Horry County has burned 15 acres, and crews expect more land to burn before they can extinguish the blaze.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported (http://bit.ly/y4SI1Y) that the firefighters are protecting 15 homes from the fire that broke out Sunday afternoon. Officials are asking that people who don’t live in the area stay out, but residents can come and go as needed.

Horry County Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Leslie Yancey says investigators are looking into the cause of the fire in the Palmetto Pointe area.

Twenty-six units working the blaze, including Horry County Fire & Rescue and the S.C. Forestry Commission.

The forestry department says the fire has the potential to scorch 200 acres.
