Man charged with firing at Pickens County deputies
EASLEY, S.C. (AP) — Pickens County sheriff’s deputies say a 39-year-old man fired a semi-automatic rifle at two officers, shattering the windows of a patrol car.
Authorities said Jason Chance eventually surrendered to deputies Tuesday night and no one was hurt.
Investigators say officers were called after Chance went inside an Easley home, fired a gunshot into the floor and told several people in the house that they were all going to die.
Authorities say Chance then drove back to his house, where he fired at deputies who were trying find him.
Sheriff David Stone says it is fortunate his deputies were not injured.
Chance is charged with two counts of attempted murder and several other charges. He remained in the Pickens County jail. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.
