Woman accidentally shot at Horry County mall
MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a woman was accidentally shot in the leg just minutes before a ceremony to honor veterans at a mall in Murrells Inlet.
Investigators said the shooting happened just before 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Inlet Square Mall. The woman did not appear to be seriously injured, and the ceremony went ahead as scheduled.
Witnesses say police asked for the person whose gun fired to come forward several times, but no one spoke up. Investigators later said they were questioning a woman about the shooting, but no charges have been filed.
The ceremony was to honor World War II veterans and raise money for the honor flight program that flies them to Washington to see the memorial to that war.
The mall also stayed open after the shooting.
