More than 100 Lowcountry vehicles broken into

BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) — A rash of break-ins continues on South Carolina’s coast as thieves took items from another 40 vehicles this week in the Bluffton area.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/ygiLuY ) that more than 100 vehicles have been hit in recent weeks with thieves taking everything from GPS units to small electronics, cash and prescription medicines.

Authorities thought they had ended the crime wave last weekend with the arrest of three suspects on other charges. The break-ins stopped for a few days but resumed Tuesday.

Deputies say it appears all the vehicles were unlocked and are urging residents to make sure they lock up before leaving their vehicles.
