SC talk discusses legend of Robin Hood
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — He robbed from the rich and gave to the poor. He’s also been portrayed in the movies by actors from Errol Flynn and Kevin Costner to Russell Crowe.
He’s Robin Hood and he’s the topic of a lecture Tuesday by scholars at The Citadel in Charleston.
Visiting professor Kelly DeVries said there are a couple of aspects to the Robin Hood story.
The first is, was he real? But just as important to the legend is how Robin Hood has been portrayed over the years.
The legend first appeared in 13th Century England and scholars say the portrayal of the character — whether hero or villain depending on your viewpoint — evolved as the tastes of audiences changed.
