Beaufort County making good on Daufuskie park
BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) — Beaufort County officials are making good on a 17-year-old agreement to create a small park on Daufuskie Island near Hilton Head.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/zbA0lb ) the county bought a 3-acre parcel in 1991 and four years later the state Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism reimbursed the county the $25,000 it spent
In return, the county was supposed to provide recreational opportunities.
Apparently the agreement was forgotten and was not discovered until recently when someone asked about the land.
County administrator Gary Kubic recently was told that without a park, the county would not be eligible for state park grants. A planning group is looking to create a pavilion on the land. There is no estimate of what that would cost.
