COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — The Midlands of South Carolina was hit with a powerful storm system that brought heavy rains, severe storms, and even one tornado. The National Weather Service confirmed in a storm survey of a tornado touching down around the Lexington-Aiken county border about 5 miles north of Wagener. This tornado apparently then moved northeastward into Lexington County. There is no word on damage from this system. Friday’s storms also sent a tree into an apartment complex on Lorick Circle, that’s near Farrow Road. We are told several people were taken to the hospital, the extent of their injuries are unknown at this time. The storms also sent several trees into the roadways near Farrow Road and Two Notch Road. The line of storms that brought numerous tornado warnings into the area have now exited, and some remaining rain and storms are pushing through. These are expected to bring mainly rain to the area. There are concerns of possible flooding in the area. Officials recommend motorists to “turn around, don’t drown” near the areas of water ponding on road surfaces.
