Groups on SC coast march to take back the streets
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Residents of the South Carolina Lowcountry are staging a march to take back the streets.
Saturday’s scheduled march in North Charleston is designed to call attention to the incidence of teen violence in the Charleston area in recent months.
OrganizerJuanita Breland, says about 300 people are expected for the event. She notes that violence has taken the lives of at least four young people in the Charleston area since late last year.
Breland said 17 of her friends have died over the years from violence.
Community groups are marching to the North Charleston High School stadium where the marchers will hear from speakers as well as a gospel concert.
