Wife of NC trucker killed in SC crash speaks out
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The wife of a North Carolina man killed after a tractor-trailer driver fell asleep at the wheel is speaking out about tired truckers.
WCNC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/xCa52G) that Dana Johnson told a small crowd Saturday night in Charlotte that tired commercial drivers are putting other drivers at risk.
Shawn Johnson was killed in August in a wreck on Interstate 85 in Anderson, S.C. Authorities say 69-year-old Eddie Wyatt’s truck ran off the road. When he tried to get back on the pavement, Wyatt lost control, dragging a pickup and a sports utility vehicle into oncoming traffic, where they slammed into another 18-wheeler driven by Johnson.
Wyatt and Johnson were both killed. The coroner says Wyatt had a sleep disorder.
