Deadly Fire

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ Authorities say a cigarette caused a fire that killed a woman in an apartment in Columbia. Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins said maintenance workers at the apartment could hear the woman screaming inside the apartment Tuesday morning, but could not get inside. Jenkins says the fire started in the living room after a cigarette did not get extinguished. The name of the victim has not been released. The apartment complex sustained about $50,000 in damage, but no one else was injured.
