NC Killer Mistakenly Released Recaptured in Dallas

YORK, S.C. (AP) _ A convicted killer from North Carolina who was mistakenly freed from a South Carolina jail while facing drug charges has been recaptured in Texas. York County Sheriff Bruce Bryant said Friday that 31-year-old Thomas Aaron Whitlock had been arrested in Dallas. Whitlock had been on the run since he was released from the York County jail Monday. Authorities didn’t realize the mistake until the next afternoon. Bryant has said he’s started an investigation into how the mistake happened. Whitlock was convicted in May of second-degree murder in the 2009 shooting death of Jamie Thompson in Charlotte, N.C. Whitlock also has prior convictions for burglary, robbery and drug charges in South Carolina. Whitlock evaded police for months after Thompson’s death but was also eventually arrested in Texas that time.
