Mount Pleasant police major charged with DUI

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) — The second-ranking police officer in Mount Pleasant has been charged with driving under the influence after wrecking his personal vehicle.

Police Capt. Stan Gragg says Maj. Frank Riccio has been placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted.

The Highway Patrol says Riccio wrecked his Jeep on U.S. Highway 17 about three miles south of Georgetown on Saturday afternoon. Highway Patrol Cpl. Bob Beres says the vehicle ran off the road and into a media where it turned on its side.

It was not clear if Riccio has a lawyer.
