Concealed weapons permit instructor arrested

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — State Law Enforcement Division agents say a concealed weapons permit instructor in Lexington was arrested after he taught what is required by state law to be an eight-hour class in just four hours.

SLED said 45-year-old Roland Hill was arrested Monday and charged with perjury.

Investigators say an undercover agent attended Hill’s class Feb. 19 and noted he did not give the full eight hours of instruction. SLED says anyone who got a permit in the class could also be charged with perjury because they signed documents saying they met all the requirements of the law.

Authorities say Hill is a former police officer who became a concealed weapons permit instructor in 2008. A phone listing for him couldn’t be found and it wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.
