Crews Report Heavy Smoke from Compost Fire

BALLENTINE, S.C. (WOLO) – A one-and-a-half acre compost fire is causing heavy smoke issues in the Ballentine area. The Columbia-Richland Fire Department reports a portion of West Shady Grove Road is shut down for an undetermined amount of time while crews attend to hot spots. That’s between Highway 176 and the Rolling Creek subdivision. A spokesperson says the mulch there spontaneously combusted. We’ll bring you more information as it becomes available.
