SC teaching assistant faces new sex charges

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A Lexington County teaching assistant accused of having sex with a special needs student in Cayce and Mount Pleasant faces similar charges in Richland County.

Richland deputies on Thursday charged 29-year-old Cornelius Davis with criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

Mount Pleasant police filed similar charges against Davis earlier this week. Cayce police charged Davis with committing a lewd act with a child.

Davis is a special education teaching assistant at Brookland-Cayce High School. He also coaches for Special Olympics.

He’s accused of having sex with the same 15-year-old girl three times in two days.

Richland County deputies say they were called earlier this week by the teen’s mother about an incident she says happened March 1 at Davis’ home in Hopkins.

Davis is in the Richland County jail.
